I’m An Adult, Now What?

Being an adult is a strange feeling. I sit here questioning myself: “What do I do with all my time when I was in college?” I had class two days a week, and half the time I skipped those classes. Bengals (RIP to the college bar I worked/lived at for two and a half years) closed my last semester of school so my hobby (working) had diminished. I guess my careless addiction to Netflix that kept me in bed into the afternoon hours fulfilled most of my time during the day. I would make chocolate covered strawberries on Bachelor Mondays, sip sangria at Coley’s, or encourage my friends to partake in what we liked to call “Casual Wednesdays” by night. But I digress.

But what do I do now? I’ve been out of school for almost a year now, and suddenly I feel bored.

I need a hobby. And I’m not alone! At work today, I was part of a conversation with a couple colleagues discussing how they don’t know how to fill their time when they aren’t at work. One threw out the idea of enrolling in a karate class. One questioned us if “raging on the weekend” was a hobby. It seems that we’re all in the same boat. After graduating college, we don’t know what to do with our lives when the clock strikes five o’ clock.

Don’t get me wrong, I do have things I enjoy. I’ve enjoyed my fair share of happy hours, winery visits, and shopping sprees since I graduated. I’ve grown to love having my family in such a close vicinity. I made a New Year’s resolution to read one book a month. My neighborhood is so cute and quaint and my bloodhound, Ellie, and I love going on jogs (or for lack of better terms – I’m working diligently on making her into a running partner). I’m volunteering. But I still find myself questioning where I fit into the “adult world.”

So I brainstormed, and well, here I am, writing a blog. I’m not sure what will come of this, but I hope you’re along for the ride. I’ve got a few more things up my sleeve – stay tuned…
